Just did this one - it accepts the solution in digits just fine (e.g. "28") xmadx |

Is XXXXXY == YXXXXX (5X1Y) or does it count twice? |

That's the same. Imagine you would put it together and you wouldn't see the begining and the end. Greez |

Yes, that's the same too, quangntenemy. |

Thinking of it as a neckchain / necklace with different coloured beads on it might help. The problem wants distinct values without flipping or rotating the chain. |

Can I confirm that XXXXXX is different to YYYYYY? This should be easy, but for some reason I am missing something |

Yes this is diffrent. XXXXXXX YYYYYY ZZZZZZ are 3 possibilities you can do with 1 color. Hope that helped |

And you are sure the solution you are expecting is the right one? I am pretty sure the value i am entering is correct, but it doesn't get accepted. |

As there are 31 people who solved it I'm sure, yes =) You can PM me your solution and I can tell you if you're near. Greez |

Ok, I thought I had the right answer, but it seems I was mistaken. I know XYXZXY is the same as YXZXYX, but is XYXZXY the same as XXXYYZ. If so, the answer I have should be right. |

No the 2nd one is not the same. This is because the beads are in a different order. Example XYZZYX == ZZYXXY imagine this as a loop, the end continues to the beginning we still have 2 X 1 Y 2 Z and 1 Y in that order.... just starting in a different place Start on the bold letter then read til the end looping if necessary til all letters are used: XYZZYX == ZZYXXY in your 2nd example we have XYXZXY and XXXYYZ these are different because if they were looped then the first wouldnt equal the 2nd no matter where in the loop you started hope that helps sabre |

OK. That is the way I hoped and feared it was. Hoped because it meant I understood it correctly, feared because I'm not sure how to calculate it that way. Back to the drawing board. |
